How do I know if my car has electrical issues?

Electrical issues in your car is not something to overlook or take your chances on. As soon as you notice any of these tell-tale signs of car electrical issues, take it to a professional to be diagnosed!

Battery light is on

If the battery light or check engine light is lit up on your car dashboard, there is something wrong with your vehicle. From time to time, another component of your car can turn these error lights on, but it is not common. If you have a warning light in the shape of a battery or with the letters ALT or GEN, bring your car into Frosty's Auto Clinic because the electrical system is returning an error to your onboard computer.

Engine won't crank

If the engine will not turn over, it's usually due to a dead battery, electrical drain, or failing starter. Electrical drains can come from anywhere and if not taken care of quickly, it will bleed your battery dry. You'll know you have electrical issues in your car if you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key in the ignition and nothing else happens.

The battery is corroding

It's a safe bet to replace your car battery or have it inspected by a professional if it is 3-5 years old. You can check to see if your car battery is corroding on the terminals or has a cracked or bulging battery case. Check your car battery every month or so to make sure this isn't happening!

Hot or burning odors

If you smell burning rubber when your car is on, an electrical wire casing could be burning. Your wires are in the combustion engine, so it's very important to stop driving your car if you smell any burning odors! On the same topic, if you are constantly replacing fuses in your car, you should have a mechanic like Frosty's Auto Clinic take a look and see where the issue is coming from. The sooner we diagnose the bigger issue, the sooner you can get back to driving your car without worries!

If you are experiencing any of these issues, give Frosty's Auto Clinic a call today or schedule an appointment online! We are your go-to trustworthy mechanic in Jefferson City, MO.
